The Blackjack has been for a long time one of the most known games from the casino thanks to the simplicity of the game, and to the enormous amount  that can be won, or to lose, in an only one evening.  

But which are its origins?  

The history tells us that it was born as the variation of the French version of  Baccarat, or of the “Chemin de Fer”, in the French casinos during the 700, taking the name of “Vingt-et-Un” that it means of course  21.  

It initially had some slightly different rules from those of today's, in fact the game was a follow up of hands, each with their own bets, until a player  made a 21, in that case it won and it received the bets of the other players.  

Games similar to the “Vingt-et-un”  were the Italian "Seven and a Half", and the Spanish "31", in which changed the score to get for winnings (in the "Seven and a Half the figures were worth half a point) but the purpose of the game was the same, to reach a certain score without going beyond it.  

Towards the 1800 the Blackjack arrives in the United States and takes the name to which we are accustomed to"Blackjack."  

With this name he intended the hand in which the player received the jack and the ace of spades as the first 2 cards, and with which 10 were paid to 1.  

A very rare eventuality and for this well paid.  

Subsequently the rules were changed, pointing out with "Blackjack" an any combination of Jack and ace as a first hand, but to win was more difficult  to  3 to 2,  which is what we are accustomed to.  

Up to here the history of the "Blackjack" resembles some other gambling games, but in the 60's of the last century with the come out of the book "Beat the Dealer" of professor Edward Thorp the gold epoch begins for the mathematical studies on Blackjack.
